Staten Island Expressway (I-278)
The Staten Island Expressway is the major traffic corridor in the Borough of Staten Island. It connects to the Borough of Brooklyn at the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge on the east and State of New Jersey at the Goethals Bridge to the west. It Traverses the Borough of Staten Island, New York, and includes numerous interchanges, on and off ramps and weaving sections. It is the principal vehicular commuter corridor for traffic in the Borough.
Under a design contract for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Expressway, SIMCO provided traffic engineering services and prepared the Maintenance of Traffic plans for staged construction for the mainline and ramps. This included the rehabilitation of twelve (12) bridge structures, median barrier reconstruction and HOV lane.
